Description
Open registration plein air painting competition and exhibition hosted at The Grove at the Commons and select Frisco locations. Artists may paint for up to three days, compete for cash prizes totaling $2,000+, and may be selected for an extended exhibition. All work must be for sale and meet framed, wired, and size requirements.

Registration window: Feb 7, 2026 6:00 AM to Mar 29, 2026 5:59 PM. Fee is $65; VAGF members and past participants receive a $10 discount by emailing finance@vagf.org for a code. Open to the public. First 50 artists to register participate. Fee is non-refundable but transferable with VAGF Board approval. No images need to be submitted. Event associated with Play Frisco City of Frisco Parks and Recreation Department. Paint locations include Kaleidoscope Park, Heritage Museum and historic park, Freedom Meadow at Warren Park, Frisco Commons Park and The Grove at the Commons, Limestone Quarry Park, Cottonwood Creek Greenbelt, and Rail District Main St. Day 1 Apr 16, 2026: Artists Meet and Greet 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM; optional nocturne paint at Kaleidoscope Park 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM; completed piece due by 10:30 PM at The Grove. Day 2 Apr 17: paint out 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM; piece due by 8:30 PM at The Grove. Day 3 Apr 18: paint out 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM; optional wet paint/quick draw 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM; quick draw drop-off by 1:00 PM; day-three drop-off by 2:30 PM. Exhibition open to public Apr 16-18, 2026 at The Grove at the Commons. Awards Reception Apr 18, 2026 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at The Grove at the Commons. Exhibition ends Apr 18, 2026 at 8:30 PM; buyers pick up sold art and artists pick up unsold work then. Extended exhibition runs Apr 18 to May 16, 2026 at The Gallery Wall at The Grove for selected works. Wet Paint/Quick Draw optional sign-up at the event; free for VAGF members, $10 for non-members. All artwork must be for sale at $100 or more; sales split 20% donation to VAGF, 80% to artist. Maximum of one work each for Nocturne, Friday paint out, Saturday paint out, and Saturday Wet Paint/Quick Draw, up to four total. Minimum size 8 inches on each side excluding frame; maximum 20 inches on each side excluding frame. All work must be in gallery-quality wired frames; no saw-tooth hangers. Gallery-wrapped canvases acceptable if sides painted and at least 1.5 inches deep, wired and ready to hang.
